I have some lovely artisan dollhouse miniatures and dolls that I am in the process of listing. Today I am excited to present this unusual artisan dollhouse doll, signed R A D and dated 1979 across her upper back. The doll is so pretty, and the artist is quite talented, so it was surprising to me that I couldn’t find out more about her, try as I might. This beguiling mystery girl stands 4 3/4” tall and appears to be made out of some sort of clay or chalk composition. The material is quite light weight, whatever it is, and she is wire jointed at the shoulders and hips. The doll is molded and painted in an artful way, as though she just stepped out of the pages of a gloriously illustrated storybook. She wears a molded and painted dusty rose bodysuit, with a dimensional bow on the chest, and lavender slippers to match in her feet. Perhaps this is her undergarment; or maybe she is a dancer, only needing a tutu! She wears a wooly wig, the curls falling softly about her shoulders, that is adorned with a pink silk bow tied atop. I think what makes her the most interesting are those heavy lidded intaglio eyes, and her unusual character face!
This doll has a lot of charisma, and I couldn’t help but showcase her in several different dollhouse vignettes—for your viewing pleasure, as well as my entertainment! The rare harlequin girl is another doll by the same mystery artist. It, and the other dolls and toys shown here, are not included here, but some of them can be seen in separate auctions.
