    Description

Skelly Oil Company Gas Station Attendant Jacket Embroidered Patch - Original. Very Good condition. Unused; no sewing marks - this patch pre-dates the "heat applied" and self-stick varieties. Measures from top-to-bottom and side-to-side at 4 inches.
The Skelly Oil Company was a medium-sized oil company founded in 1919 by William Skelly,
Chesley Herndon and Frederick Pielsticker in Tulsa, Oklahoma. J. Paul Getty (Tidewater Oil) managed to gain control of the company in the 1930s - and left the management team intact for the rest of their lives!
In the 1960s Tidewater became Getty Oil Company and
Skelly was eventually merged into Getty Oil in 1977 and the Skelly brand was discontinued.
    Many former Skelly became
    Getty, then Texaco
after Getty was acquired by Texaco in 1984. A new and completely different company in Texas now owns the brand names - I have no idea what they're doing with them.
