The tuning hammer was recently obtained from an estate sale, where it was well cared for, age is unknown.
This is a vintage piano tuning hammer according to resources, most dual tuning hammers of this era had both ends with the square sockets.
I believe this one is one of the rarest tuning hammers from this era having different socket ends, one (1) with a narrow oblong socket and one (1) with a square socket.
I believe the square heads were used before the 1870’s when the introduction of the star type pin head was introduced.
The tuning hammer has no ID marking that I can find. The hammer is 9 1/2” fully closed and extends to 15”, the head is 4 1/2" wide.
The hammer has the ferrule as brass with a brass thumb screw. The hammer weighs approx. 11ozs. I believe the handle is rosewood.
The tuning hammer is in good condition, the brass has been polished and the wood has been sanded and refinished
.
As with used items, there is some normal light use wear, a couple of scratches and dings on handle, all as noted from the photos.
The tuning hammer is
SOLD AS IS with NO RESERVE.
