RATCHET STAR HEAD FUNCTION:
The ratchet star head, which has the star bit on the end to fit over the tuning pins like a tuning hammer, is the easiest tool to use when loosening the tension on the strings.
LOOSEN PIANO STRINGS TENSION:
Place it on the pin and then turn it one more time to release or remove the tension. One full revolution of the pin will release almost all of the tension from the string. Repeat the sequence on one string for each note, then go back and repeat on another string for each note, and finally on the third string to equalize the tension. So once you've loosened them up, you can either remove the string off of one or snip the wire if it's loosened enough. You may need to loosen it up a little more to get access to it.
SQUARE SOCKET FUNCTION:
So once you've taken the strings off and clipped them again, take measurements and make a chart of the sizes for each individual note, you'll know what size wire to use when you go to put the strings on. The next job is to remove the tuning pins, and then use a power drill to install the square socket.
