LARGE Vintage/Antique Chinese Hand Carved Amber Color Smiling BUDDHA 20.98 Lbs incl. Stand.
Dimension: 18 3/4" height without the stand, 20 1/2" height including the stand.
Various light conditions were used to take the pictures.
This Buddha was purchased by my wife in 1973 in a Chinese Antique Shop in Kuala Lumpur while she was in Malaysia as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
The wooden stand was obviously made specifically for this Buddha and the feet fit perfectly into the stand. The stand has small nicks and scratches as well as a larger scratch as can be seen in picture, it's not something that jumps out into your face when the Buddha is placed in the stand.
Note that the Buddha can also stand on its own without the stand...will not tip.
Allow me to also point out that about 40 yrs ago the kids broke the left hand off the Buddha ..(in the wrist area )...no idea how they did it...did not ask too many questions...they did not tell us about it until YEARS later...:) and actually did a nice job of gluing it back into place. After we eventually were told about this, we had to strain to even find it.
*Unless specifically told to try and find the reattachment in the named area it is not noticeable to anybody looking at the Buddha !*
The Buddha is highly attractive and gives off a cheerful feeling.
