Fossil 2 Brachiopods on Shale Ordovician 4445 mya Kentucky #3022

Description

Here is an eye-catching plate of shale featuring 2 brachiopods, Platystrophia Ponderosa, with no paint added.  They are from the Ordovician, about 445 million years ago.  From the Mount Auburn Formation, Maysville, Kentucky.
The larger brachiopod is about 1.46" inches wide. The plate is about 3.3" by 3.3", and it weighs 9.6 oz.  The brachiopods were removed from the shale, then individually cleaned using air abrasive. They were then reattached, forming this beautiful display.
Brachiopods have shells that open on the top and the bottom, rather than right to left like mollusks. Only about 450 species, out of about 12,000 identified, are alive today, mostly in colder waters or on continental shelves.

Return Policy:   If you are not satisfied with your item, please contact us within 72 hours of receiving the item.  We'll refund your purchase price, minus shipping charges, upon safe return of the item in original condition (item cannot be altered or damaged) within 30 days of buyer’s receipt of item.
