Description
Coin operated games became popular in penny arcades in the 40's and 50's. These were a game of skill with no prizes offered, avoiding legal problems involving gambling. Typically the customer would remotely drive a bulldozer, showing sand, gravel or cinders around for a few minutes. Lentil beans were chosen because the did not germinate, but needed to swap out every two years to avoid insets. These machines were made by Chicago Coin co and or Williams, both of Chicago. They were somewhat of the next generation of arcade games beyond the peep show and mutoscopes. They were intended to appeal to young kids.
This miniature version would make a nice addition to your penny arcade or other miniature project. It is non-functional, but visually appealing. built to 1" = 1 foot scale.
measures about 3 1/4 wide, 1 1/2" deep, and 2 3/4" tall.
they are purposely grungy and old looking with dirty windows as though they might have languished in a barn somewhere in Iowa after being retired from amusement park duty .
The first ARCADE

probably were made in the 1890s, and the first electric coin-operated
machines
in about 1910. T
he machines and the penny arcade was inspired by my past love and memories of Riverview Amusement Park, Belmont and Western in Chicago 1907-1967.
In today's different world, please join me with my love for these old machines.
