Focused Ultrasonicator is used for high-throughput, sample preparation and extraction. The technology uses controlled and highly focused nonlinear acoustic waves that are delivered to each sample. The systems are designed to work with a variety of closed or open sample vessels including vials, tubes, and multi-well plates. The
Covaris model E210
is most appropriate for samples less than 500 mg and volumes less than 5 ml. The Covaris Process generates acoustic shock waves to cause controlled cavitation and acoustic streaming at the focal point within the sample treatment vessel. Well-known uses of sonic or acoustic energy in materials processing include "sonication", an uncontrolled process of mechanical disruption involving the direct immersion of an unfocused kHz range (e.g., 15,000 cycles per second) ultrasound source into a fluid suspension of the material being treated.
